Growing up with horses teaches children a multitude of life lessons. Children learn to be compassionate and caring by considering another’s needs before their own. They learn that opportunity and success is a result of hard work and that how to prioritize their time in order to juggle their daily responsibilities. Children who have grown up with horses are a product of the industry that raised them – and now we can support them in taking the next step in life.
Scholarships play a vital role in cultivating the future leaders of the industry. For youth members who need help to turn their experiences into a career, scholarships can provide the means to direct them to success. Scholarships alleviate monetary pressure and generate a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Our mission is to foster educational opportunities for future industry professionals wishing to pursue careers which are tied either directly or indirectly to the horse industry. When we support our youth members we set a standard of excellence and purpose for the entire industry.
The American Quarter Horse Association, The American Quarter Horse Foundation and its donors are honored to have created a legacy of support for its youth members. Scholarship recipients will be the individuals who carry with them a passion and dedication to the American Quarter Horse as they begin their careers. They are the faces of AQHA’s next generation.
Help us support the education of tomorrow’s industry leaders.
Since its inception in 1976, the American Quarter Horse Foundation scholarship program has given more than $7 million in financial assistance to over 1,200 youth members. Each year, the Foundation awards almost 175 scholarships.
The Foundation selects scholarship recipients based on financial need, academic merit, equine involvement and civic activities. These individuals are today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders. With an education, great mentoring and a love of the Quarter Horse, these young people will become the industry’s next generation of owners, breeders, trainers, journalists and veterinarians.
These scholarships would not be possible without the generous support of Foundation donors. Donors can either support a current scholarship or create an endowment of their own. Scholarship programs created by donors may be generalized and available to any qualified applicant, or they can be tailored to a certain major, background or career interest.
