Zupers Quick Dash Scores in Vals Fortune

Veteran gelding earns sixth career stakes victory.

Zupers Quick Dash picked up the sixth stakes victory of his career in Saturday’s $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes (RG3) at Delta Downs. The Louisiana-bred gelding by Heza Fast Dash got up to score by a head with Gilbert Ortiz in the irons for trainer Bobby Martinez and owners Ponderosa Ranch of PC Inc. and MCM Farms. Zupers Quick Dash covered 400 yards in :19.468 as the 7-2 third choice.

Zupers Quick Dash, who also won the 2010 renewal of the Vals Fortune, improved his record to 24-9-2-6 with earnings of $340,129. He was bred by Mark Langford out of the Zuppardo’s Prince (TB) mare Oh Shez Zuper.

Sunset Racing Stables Inc.’s Lousiana Panther finished second with favored Taylors Toastin Papa in third for owner Gerald Libersat.

Also on the card, Doyles Dashing Star won the $35,550 Virgil Bond Stakes after the disqualification of Leading Patriot, who crossed the wire 1 ¼ lengths in front but was taken down for interfering with Dr Drip.

Bred in Georgia by Barry McDonald, Doyles Dashing Star is a 6-year-old mare by Heza Fast Dash. This marked the first career stakes victory in 30 starts for the mare. Josh Dearmon rode for trainer Gene Stephens and owner Rachael Stephens.
