Sally Box’s Mr Truly Uno looks to push his record to three-for-three at 550 yards when he defends his 2012 win in the $35,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes at Remington Park on Saturday night.

Mr Truly Uno (Feature Mr Jess-Truley Yours by Tolltac) has found a productive distance at 550 yards with each of his two wins over the past year coming at the distance. A year ago, he prevailed by a neck in the SLM Big Daddy when he made his first 550-yard start. He made his second start at the distance in the TQHA 550 Stakes at Retama Park in July and rolled to a 1 3/4 length win as the odds-on favorite.

The Sleepy Gilbreath-trained gelding then made his only start since then when he was a close second by a head in the $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at 440 yards in October.

Mary Kirby’s Free Stater (Separatist-Free Bird Fly (TB) by Bianconi) makes his first appearance since last fall at Prairie Meadows. The 870-yard specialist is making his 550-yard debut to prepare for trips around the hook.

Free Stater was third in the Red Cell Prairie Meadows Distance Challenge (G3) and then took the Q-Racing Video Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths as the 6-5 favorite for trainer Jackie Kirby on October 26. Each of those races came at 870 yards.

The Kirby team will also send out Jesse In Town (Feature Mr Jess-Whatsthatfillysname by Takin On The Cash), who is making his first appearance since winning the OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes by a head over 440 yards. The 6-year-old gelding has never raced at 550 yards, however was also second in the 440-yard Farnam Stakes back in October.
