August 31, 2013

David Rath's homebred Sooner Country Babe raced to her third consecutive win while setting a new 400-yard track record at Prairie Meadows Friday night. The Country Chicks Man filly also posted the top qualifying mark in the $30,000-added Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the two trial races will return to the Iowa racetrack on Saturday, September 14, to vie for the winner's purse and a starting spot in the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G1) at Los Alamitos Race Course on November 9.

After going winless in five starts at 2, Sooner Country Babe broke her maiden in her first start at Remington Park as a 3-year-old last March. She won a trial for the Heritage Place Derby (G1) then picked up an optional claiming win at Canterbury Park on August 11.

Jockey Jorge Torres cruised to a head victory over PYC Pick Your Pocket in :19.445, a 104 speed index. The previous 400-yard track record at Prairie Meadows was set August 14, 2010, by multiple champion Spit Curl Diva.

Stacy Charette-Hill conditions the Pennsylvania-bred filly from the Takin On The Cash mare Sooner Take Greene. She is 4-2-1 in 10 starts and has earned $45,555.

Heros Heart also earned a 104 speed index following a three-quarter length win in second trial to get the second fastest clocking of :19.446, just off the top time. Making her first start at the Iowa racetrack since winning the $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows last fall, the Valiant Hero filly races for her breeders Horton Racing, LLC.

Charlton Hunt saddled the four-time winner from the Sixarun mare Sweethearts Quicksix. Ridden by Stormy Smith, Heros Heart has earned $103,469.
