Slew By You and An Absolut Diamond, the first- and third-place finishers in the Shue Fly Stakes (RG2), return in the $85,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders Association Stakes for 3-year-old state-breds over 400 yards Sunday afternoon at Sunland Park.

Valle Guadiana Corp.’s Slew By You (Dash Ta Fame-Slew A Po (TB) by Slewicide) won the Shue Fly on January 5 by a nose while An Absolut Diamond (Ketel Won-The Millennium Star by Strawfly Special) was a late-running third in the 400-yard dash, coming up a neck short.

Slew By You has won her latest three races while climbing up the class ladder. She won her maiden in November at Zia Park and then took a Sunland Park allowance race by 1 length on December 14 before her game Shue Fly win for trainer Juan Gonzalez.

Owned by Sandy Farris, Marc Jungers and Lisa McMinn, An Absolut Diamond is also a late-developing sprinter. The long-striding gelding won his maiden in his third start and, after a third-place finish in a Zia Park allowance race, came up with an allowance win in his first start at Sunland Park for trainer Mike Joiner.

Crowson Racing’s One Blazin Kimbo (Chicks A Blazin-Kimbo With Class by Splash Bac) won each of his two starts at Zia Park and then was second to An Absolut Diamond in the Sunland Park allowance race. The Victor Rodriguez-Flores-trained gelding was fourth in the Shue Fly Stakes as the favorite.
