TF Featured Effort Wins West Texas

Son of Feature Mr Jess scores second major win at Sunland Park.

TF Featured Effort completed a rare double on Saturday in taking the $95,423 West Texas Maturity (G2) after winning the $165,935 West Texas Derby (G3) last year at Sunland Park. The 4-year-old stallion by Feature Mr Jess drifted in from post nine while drawing clear to win by 1 ¼ lengths with a clocking of :18.925 at 400 yards. Alonso Rivera rode for owner and trainer Jaime Dominguez. TF Featured Effort returned $13.20 for a $2 win ticket as the third choice in the wagering.

Bred in Louisiana by Tate Farms out of the Special Effort mare Meadow Creeks Effort, TF Featured Effort improved his bankroll to $191,341 with a record of 17-5-3-4. TF Featured Effort ended his 2012 campaign with a solid fourth in the $350,000 The Championship at Sunland Park (G1) and then kicked off his 4-year-old season with a third-place effort in his West Texas trial with the third-fastest qualifying time.

Anna Crowson’s Jess Cuervo, a son of Corona Cartel sent off as the 6-5 favorite, crossed the wire second. Kevin and Robin Allred’s Our First Corona, also by Corona Cartel, closed to take third.
