Sophomores Line up in Uncas Handicap

Time For Jesse Lee headlines in the Uncas Handicap.

Press Release
March 7, 2014

Jim Walker’s Time For Jesse Lee, one of the stars of the Intermountain and Northwest racing series held at Los Alamitos in 2013, will now face a solid group of promising 3-year-olds in Saturday’s $16,000 Uncas Overnight Handicap at 350 yards. First post time is 6:30 p.m.

Trained by Monty Arrossa and to be ridden by Cesar De Alba, Time For Jesse Lee won a pair of races at Los Alamitos last season. He came away victorious in a trial to the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge on August 24 and in a trial to the Wild West Futurity on October 6. The son of Mr Jesse Lee didn’t win a win one last season, but he was the runner-up in the $44,000 Juvenile final, $128,000 Wild West final and in the $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Championship (G2). He figures to be one of the favorites in the Uncas on Saturday night.

Flying L Ranch’s Flying Top Fueler ran in the $380,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG2) last season and then looked like he needed a start when making his sophomore debut with a seventh place allowance finish on February 7. The Walk Thru Fire colt figures to improve off of that return outing and should be one of the horses to fear in this race. Ramon Sanchez will ride him for trainer Paul Jones.

Scott Willoughby will saddle the Ed Allred-owned sprinters Mesa Marvel and Sadie Sis. Sadie Sis has won trials to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity and Governor’s Cup Futurity.

Nancy Scane’s Ima Foose, who has been sharp in winning her last two outings, will complete the field.
