Rich Stakes at Hialeah

Florida track presents five stakes on Sunday card.

Hialeah Park on Sunday offered up a card featuring five stakes events, including three six-figure races.

In the richest race of the day, the $209,440 Hialeah Laddie Futurity, second-fastest qualifier Joker On Jack came through to win by a head as the 9-5 favorite under Raul Gutierrez. Owned by Wade Helton and trained by Alfredo Gomez, the Oklahoma-bred gelding by PYC Paint Your Wagon dashed 400 yards in :19.576. This marked the second stakes win of the year for Joker On Jack, who also won the $159,952 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity at Will Rogers Downs. Corner K Quarter Horses LLC bred the winner out of the Six Fortunes mare Miss Six Fortune. The Wave Carver gelding Hez Snow Quick and the King Corona gelding Connor Corona rounded out the trifecta.

In the $176,590 Hialeah Lassie Futurity, 31-1 longshot Ms Southern Dynasty broke her maiden with Ray Charles Simon riding for trainer Guillermo Valdivia and breeder/owner Sam Green. Sent off as the longest shot in the field, the Oklahoma-bred daughter of FDD Dynasty had finished ninth in each of her first three starts in Oklahoma and then finished third in her trial for this race. Ms Southern Dynasty broke sharply from post 9 and led all the way before hitting the wire three-quarters of a length in front with a 400-yard clocking of :19.695. Mahna Mahna, a daughter of Corona Cartel, finished second with BP Snowy Success, by Cartel Success, in third.

The $192,520 Hialeah Park Derby went to fastest qualifier Feature My News, a Florida-bred gelding by Feature Mr Jess running for owner Alicia Hill Smith. Trained by Matt Frazier and ridden by Shanley Jackson, Feature My News got the 440-yard distance in :21.771 and won by a head as the 5-2 favorite. Feature My News, who was bred by W.W. McKibbin, lost his first 12 career starts but has now won three consecutive races. The gelding broke his maiden in the $85,000 QHRA of Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park and then won his trial for this race at Hialeah. Sstrickortreat, the winner of last year's Evangeline Downs Futurity, crossed the wire second with Sizzling Perry in third.

In the $85,270 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity (R), Rancho Los Dos Potrillos LLC’s James On The Run, a Texas-bred gelding by Ivory James, prevailed with a 350-yard clocking of :17.841. The Bobby Cox-bred runner, who won by 1 1/4 lengths as the even-money favorite, picked up his fourth straight victory after breaking his maiden and winning a claiming race at Will Rogers Downs and then taking a trial for this race. Raul Gutierrez rode for trainer Brandon Muniz. Ryon James and What Gives, both by Ivory James, rounded out the trifecta.

Bill Price’s homebred BPs Jumpin Frisco picked up his first career stakes victory in the $20,000 Tallahassee Stakes. David Pinon rode for trainer Brian Muse and clocked 220 yards in :12.043. BPs Jumpin Frisco, a gelding by Jumpn, has previously hit the board in four stakes and was a finalist in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) and All American Derby (G1). Sixes Quick Jolla and Specialmanonamission completed the top three.
