Living up to his name and becoming a stakes winner for the first time, Christine and Eduardo Morales’ Hesa Winner scored an easy victory in Sunday’s $20,850 Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge at Hialeah Park. The race is part of the Bonus Challenge presented by Markel, which offers extra racing opportunities for Bank of America Challenge-enrolled horses.

Sent off as the even-money favorite in the field of eight, Hesa Winner opened up an early one-length lead under Gerardo Garrido and maintained that advantage until hitting the wire in :15.289 for 300 yards. Eduardo Morales also trains the 4-year-old gelded son of Stoli, who was bred in Texas by Jerry Windham. Hesa Winner just missed winning the 250-yard Beautiful Prairie Stakes last time out at Hialeah and has now banked $47,234 with a record of 18-5-1-3.

Cesar Rosales’ Speed Smith, a son of Prime Talent with stakes wins in Michigan and Indiana, finished second with Manuel Gutierrez aboard for conditioner Rolando Almanza. Rancho Los Dos Potrillos LLC’s Gold Rrrush, by Corona Cartel, got third.
