Xavier Paul Cardenas’ Sea Panther Run is the fastest qualifier to a very contentious field of older runners in the $25,000 Rukin Jelk Stakes at Rillito Park on Sunday afternoon.

Sea Panther Run (Panther Mountain-Yacht Sea by Mr Jess Perry) was the fastest qualifier with a :17.333 time for the 350 yards while Chase This Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Chase This Juno by Juno Dat Cash) nearly matched that time with a :17.374 mark and BV Fly First Class checked with a :17.383 clocking.

The Omar Lorta-trained Sea Panther Run won his trial by one-half length after finishing off the board in a deep optional-claiming race at Sunland Park. Last year, he won the Desert Classic Derby (R) at Turf Paradise.

The Ceasar Lopez-owned and -trained Chase This Wagon finished a nose ahead of Jose Gallardo’s BV Fly First Class in their trial.

Chase This Wagon was a close second at Rillito Park in his out before the trial.
