Sprinters go super-short at Los Alamitos.
November 14, 2013
The season’s fastest stakes race will be contested on Saturday night at Los Alamitos when a full field of 10 runners lineup to compete in the 100-Yard $16,000 The Blink Of An Eye Handicap. The distance will allow racing fans on hand to enjoy the sights, sounds, power and excitement of horses breaking out of the starting gate in full force right in front of the grandstand apron. The track record at 100 yards of :06.514 seconds was set by Juno Dat Royal Bug on May 18, 2007. The Blink Of An Eye usually features an exciting blanket finish as well.
The field for the Blink Of An Eye will feature several stakes winners including recent Pink Ribbon Handicap winner Shakeemdontbreakem and Lethal Cartel, who ran second in the Pink Ribbon on October 19.
Racing for Jakita Investments LLC, Shakeemdontbreakem won the Pink Ribbon contested at 300 yards by a nose in sizzling time of :15.32. Cody Jensen will ride the Contend filly.
Other top names racing in the Blink Of An Eye will be Splenda LLC’s Jewel First Cat SA, who finished fourth in the Governor’s Cup Derby earlier this year, PCQHRA Breeders Derby (G3) finalist Splendiferous Diva and 2012 Sprint Stakes winner Ronsepi. Chicks Man Dashin, a winner of four races this season, is another to watch.
