Blackberry Czech Leads Kindergarten Girls

Fastest qualifier one of seven fillies in Kindergarten Futurity.

Salvador Pimienta’s Blackberry Czech leads the girl power in the $268,200 Kindergarten Futurity (G2) as the fastest qualifier to the 300-yard dash on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.

There are seven fillies, including the top four qualifiers, in the first major futurity of the year at Los Alamitos.

Homebred Blackberry Czech (Corona Czech-RA Noble by Blushing Bug) won her maiden in her second career start when she won the third of eight trials over fifth-fastest qualifier Sugarbear Sax Man (Tres Seis-Therestischemistry by Jazzing Hi). She was timed in :15.439 for 300 yards.

The Felix Gonzalez-trained filly nearly won her career debut when she was second by a neck in a 300-yard maiden race at Los Alamitos and was timed in :15.484.

Bonanza Racing Stables’ The Cartel Straw (Corona Cartel-The Long Straw by Strawfly Special) could be favored in the Kindergarten after winning her two starts. She dominated her maiden race by a length in :15.361 for 300 yards and then set the second-fastest qualifying time of :15.441 while taking her Kindergarten trial by a half length.

The Juan Aleman-trained filly was the odds-on favorite in each of her wins.

Bonanza Racing Stables is also represented by eighth-fastest qualifier Mr Ease Cartel (Corona Cartel-Sportiness by Zevi (TB)) and 10th-fastest qualifier To Catch This Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-To Catch A Fly by Strawfly Special) in the Kindergarten.

Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Tres Racer (Tres Seis-Looselips Sink Ships by Takin On The Cash) also brings a 2-for-2 record into the Kindergarten. She won her maiden by a neck at first asking and then established the third-fastest qualifying time of :15.468 when she won her trial by a neck as the even-money favorite.

EG High Desert Farms’ homebred Jess Another Czech (Corona Czech-Jess Another Ticket by Mr Jess Perry) won her trial by a neck as a 15-1 outsider with the fourth-fastest time of :15.484. She was second in her debut as a member of the Victor Miranda barn and was trained by Francisco Vallejo for her Kindergarten trial victory.
