Quarter Circle W Bar LLC’s Bet On Ballou extended his win streak to five and picked up his second career stakes victory on Sunday in the $65,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes (R) for New Mexico-breds at SunRay Park. The 8-year-old gelding by Sum Fun To Bet prevailed by a nose and covered 400 yards in :19.617 with Jaime Leos in the irons. Wesley Giles trained the winner, who paid $5.40 as the betting favorite.

Bet On Ballou, who was bred by Carl Dahl out of the Strait To The Bank mare Ballou Thirty Two, had moved between the claiming and allowance level several times during his career and could have been claimed for only $10,000 last year. But as an 8-year-old this season he has flourished with five wins in as many starts, including the Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park. He has banked $142,200 this year and has an overall record of 24-12-2-4 with earnings of $238,905.

Sylvia and Alonso Aranda’s WDC Wendys Wine, a daughter of Woodbridge who had hit the board in two other stakes this year, finished a game second. Mary and Melvin Neugebauer’s 9-year-old homebred Miracle Snow, making the 50th start of his career, got third.
