Ruidoso Yearling Sale Remains Strong on 2nd Day

Three horses sell for more than $200,000 on second night.

Ruidoso Yearling Sale

A Corona Cartel filly, Stoli filly and Walk Thru Fire colt each sold for more than $200,000 Saturday night on the second day of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale where buyer demand for quality horses fueled a particularly solid market.

Ruidoso Horse Sale Company reported 201 of 284 yearlings offered as sold for total receipts of $8,602,700 through the first two sessions. The average price sits at $42,800 with a continuing rise in the median price to $33,000. Thirteen horses have sold for $100,000 or more, four for $200,000 or more and one for $350,000.

A Corona Cartel sister to 2013 Rainbow Futurity (G1) winner Ms First Prize Rose ($506,404) and 2013 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity (R) winner Coronado Cartel ($310,748) brought the top bid of $230,000 in the second session. McColee Land & Livestock signed the ticket for the filly out of First Carolina, by Mr Jess Perry, consigned by 6666 Ranch, agent.

William E. Smith paid $210,000 for Trendi, a full-sister to world champion and #2 all-time leading money earner Stolis Winner ($2,235,161). Jerry Windham consigned the Stoli filly out of Viva Jean, by Runaway Winner.

Reliance Ranches LLC, a leading buyer in the first session, added Walkin Back Blues on Saturday night. They paid $200,000 for the Walk Thru Fire colt consigned by Granada Farms, agent. The sorrel colt is out world champion Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328), by Corona Cartel.

Through two sessions, Reliance Ranches LLC has led all buyers with 10 purchases for $827,000. 5 Guys Partnership has purchased five yearlings for $390,000, and Edward C. Allred bought the current high-seller for $350,000 in the first session.

6666 Ranch, agent, is the leading consignor/agent with 17 yearlings totaling $985,000. Burns Ranch, agent, has sold nine for $673,500, Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for Crystal Springs Farm Dispersal, sold 10 yearlings for $553,000. Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, has had another 10 yearlings bring $404,000.

Corona Cartel is the leading sale sire by average (two or more sold) with 23 yearlings averaging $79,826. Tempting Dash has four yearlings averaging $78,000, and Stoli has four yearlings for $70,175. World champion Apollitical Jess is the leading first crop sale sire with eight yearlings averaging $26,875.
