A fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Texas Classic Derby (G1) made Ochoa’s stay at the top of the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top 10 rankings for older horses a short one. In his first defense of the nation’s top perch, the sport’s all-time leading money earner relinquished the No. 1 spot this week to reigning world champion Cold Cash 123. Voters gave Cold Cash 123 the 95-88 edge as Ochoa slid to No. 2 overall.

Longshots riddled the Texas Classic Derby as 29-1 upsetter The Long Knife parlayed the biggest score of his career into a No. 9 national ranking this week. The C. Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath trainee was the only newcomer to the rankings for the 3-year-olds and older this week.

As for the 2-year-olds, Texas Classic Futurity (G1) winner Valiant Lil Lady made a debut splash in the poll this week at No. 5. The Valiant Hero filly has now won four of five career starts. The juvenile rankings continue to be paced this week by unanimous No. 1 One Dashing Eagle, winner of three major futurity finals in 2012.
