The First Place Dash stallion First Comment was represented by his first stakes winner on Saturday night when his son Jess A Comment captured the $38,880 Adequan Retama Derby Challenge at Retama Park. The Texas-bred gelding runs for owner Michael Amburn and was bred by Raymond Loup.

Bred and still owned by J.W. Owens of Vinton, Louisiana, Texas-bred First Comment won 13 of 27 career starts and banked $384,968. He won the 2005 Texas Classic Derby (G1) and hit the board in four other Grade 1 events. First Comment is out of the Editorial Comment (TB) mare PW Comment.

Despite this being First Comment’s first stakes winner, the stallion has enjoyed success with 21 winners and the earners of more than $600,000. His other runners include Ourfirstorphan, who placed in the All Canadian Futurity (R) and Fort Erie Futurity, and Casanovas Comment, who finished second in the Louisiana Juvenile Stakes (R).
