Race Record: The consistent Grade 1 qualifier Apollitical Blood is pointed to his fifth Grade 1 race via the fastest-qualifying time to the All American Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. Racing in the seventh of 10 trials to the $2,378,383 final, with Eduardo Nicasio in the saddle for Juan Aleman, the bay colt by world champion and sophomore sire Apollitical Jess made a statement when he extended his stride and pulled out to win by 2 1/4 lengths in :21.352.

In his only other appearance at Ruidoso Downs this summer, Apollitical Blood came off a seven-month layoff to run fourth in his July 5 trial to the Rainbow Derby (G1). That trial race was won in a nonqualifying time by Trendi, who won last year’s Rainbow Futurity (G1).

“(Apollitical Blood) drew the outside in his Rainbow trial and qualified for the ($100,000) Corona Cartel,” Aleman said. “We decided to pass (on the Corona Cartel) and point at this race.

“He’s a colt and he’s a handful,” Aleman continued. “But when he gets his mind on running he can really run.”

Racing for Juan Alberto Lizarraga Tirado’s Rancho El Cabresto Inc. of San Jacinto, California, the stakes-placed Apollitical Blood last year qualified for four Grade 1 futurities, finishing fourth in the All American, fifth in the Ed Burke Million, second in the Golden State Million and sixth in the Los Alamitos Two Million. With four wins, all in futurity or derby trials, Apollitical Blood now has earned $505,520 in 11 career races.

Breeder: Bruce and Jill Thompson of Patterson, California, have bred seven starters, with five returning as winners and horses that have earned more than $540,000.

Owner: August 6, 2004, changed Juan Alberto Lizarraga Tirado's life forever. That was the day he claimed a young Apollo (TB) filly named Apollitical Time for $16,000 upon the recommendation of trainer Juan Aleman. It is one of the greatest claims in history -- she would retire a champion and earner of $904,242 and produce for his Rancho El Cabresto Inc. world champion Apollitical Jess ($1,399,831), now the sire of Apollitical Blood.

Trainer: Juan Aleman has trained the earners of more than $10.8 million, including champion Apollitical Time and her world champion son Apollitical Jess. He also trained champion Flame And Flash and Grade 1 winners Bon Accord, Fovee, Nellie Delaney, Takin On Spoon Man and Running Bac.

Jockey: Eduardo Nicasio since 2008 has ridden the earners of more than $9.2 million, including Grade 1 winners Apollitical Jess, Turbulent Times, Foose Cash SR, Good Reason SA, Last To Fire, Harems Last Dash, El Aguila Real, Fovee, Significant Heart and Far Niente.

Pedigree: Apollitical Blood is one of 67 winners and the earners of more than $2.4 million in two crops raced by his sire, who also is owned by Rancho El Cabresto. Apollitical Jess was last year’s leading freshman sire, with progeny earnings of $1,262,767, and despite not being among the stallion’s six stakes winners, Apollitical Blood was his leading earner, with $502,960. An 8-year-old son of Mr Jess Perry out of the Grade 1-winning champion and broodmare of the year Apollitical Time ($904,242, by Apollo (TB)), Apollitical Jess stands at Jim and Marilyn Helzer’s JEH Stallion Station at Purcell, Oklahoma.

Apollitical Blood is one of four winners from six starters out of the winning Fishers Dash mare Brazilian Dasher ($98,060), who ran fifth in Jumpn Beduino’s PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G1) and fourth in Pease Fire’s Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG1). Apollitical Blood is a full brother to stakes winner Apollitical Legacy ($25,800).
