For Chuck DeHaan drawing and painting came as a gift. As soon as he found out pencils left tracks…horses were the subject, and western art the base. The drawing of Fred Harman’s Red Ryder amazed Chuck awakening the need inside to express himself. Will James forced him up another step.
Never having the opportunity for formal art training, Chuck worked at it the only way he could. He starts with an under paining of many grays, building up from there with many glazes. To him, the success of any artist comes from the viewers. Chuck worked with many publishers and won many awards, but it’s still the viewers that put the final stamp of approval on any artist’s work.
