2013 American Quarter Horse Journal digital high-point supplementIt’s no easy feat to stand at the top of the heap at the end of a long show season. That’s exactly why every year AQHA recognizes hard-hauling individuals and their American Quarter Horses.

To keep owners and riders abreast of their standings in the AQHA year-end race, The American Quarter Horse Journal tracks performance statistics mined from the AQHA database. Every month, the latest standings are tabulated and presented in the Journal.

Open and amateur division Level-3 year-end high-point winners are honored at the AQHA convention, while youth winners are presented at the Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City.

Year-End High-Point Awards

Annually, AQHA recognizes the top point earners in each division of every AQHA-approved event. Horses are recognized in the open division, while youth and amateurs with any one horse are recognized in their respective division.

2014 year-end awards will be awarded according to the new leveling program. Awards will be recognized in each event for open, amateur, and youth divisions.

  • Rookie level high point earners will be recognized, in each event.  The top-10 exhibitors and top 10 horses will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.
  • Level 1 (Novice) high point earners will be recognized, in each event.  The top-10 earners will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.
  • Level 2 (Intermediate & Progressive) high point earners who have earned points in Level 2 classes will be recognized, in each event. The points must have been earned in Level 2 classes. The top-10 earners will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.
  • Level 3 (Open) high point earners who have earned points in level 3 classes will be recognized, in each event.  The points must have been earned in Level 3 classes. Points earned in Level 2 are not included in the point counts. 1st place winners will receive a certificate of accomplishment, AQHA year-end high point trophy, and personalized award buckle. 2nd through 10th will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.
  • Open Junior & Senior high point horses will be recognized, in each event. The top-10 earners will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.
  • Open high pointing Stallion/Mare/Geldings will be recognized, in each event. The top-10 horses will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with the opportunity to purchase an official AQHA Top-10 Year-End award.

Year-End All-Around High-Points

Several year-end all-around awards are presented each year:

  • Markel Insurance All-Around Youth
  • Farnam All-Around Amateur
  • Farnam All-Around Junior Horse
  • Farnam All-Around Senior Horse
  • Farnam World Champion Racing American Quarter Horse

For eligibility in the year-end all-around high-point race, points must be earned the same Level and include halter or performance halter, plus at least two of the performance categories listed in Rule SHW803.5(c) of the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations, with a minimum of five points earned in the lowest category.
