What Is the World Show?

The AQHA World Championship Show, each November in Oklahoma City, is truly a pinacle event featuring the best American Quarter Horses in the World.

AQHA World Show 2012 logoEach November, thousands of competitors and their American Quarter Horses convene at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City for the FedEx Open and Bank of America Amateur AQHA World Championship Show.

The AQHA World Show is the pinnacle event for for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the globe. Competitors and their Quarter Horses compete yearlong to qualify for the honor of competing at this annual event. Check out the schedule. View dates for future AQHA World Shows.

Is this really a "world" championship show?

More than 3,500 entries from the United States, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico and Venezuela competed for 94 world championships at the 2011 event. Stay tuned for facts from the 2012 World Show.

How do you qualify?

Exhibitors must qualify for the AQHA World Show by earning a predetermined number of points throughout the qualifying period to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. Here is the breakdown of qualifying points for each class.

AQHA has action-packed evenings with a full schedule of the most exciting classes in American Quarter Horse competition. For a taste of what fun events lie in store, check out the 2011 World Show schedule below:

  • Monday, November 7: Watch a speedy evening of the world’s finest barrel racing and pole bending horses and competitors.
  • Tuesday, November 8: AQHA is offering up a jam-packed evening of reining, barrel racing, horsemanship, pole bending, team penning and ranch sorting. This is an evening you won’t want to miss!
  • Wednesday, November 9: Watch the world’s finest amateur roping competitors compete in tie-down roping, breakaway, heading and heeling.
  • Wednesday, November 16: If you’re a fan of high-stakes cutting, be sure to watch the world’s best junior and senior cutting horses will battle it out on November 16. 
  • Friday, November 18: If you’re looking for a night of world-class western competition, November 18 is it! Watch competitors in tie-down roping, heading and heeling and close out the night with the cow work portion of the senior working cow horse finals.
  • Saturday, November 19: From the refinement of halter, western pleasure and hunter under saddle to the agility of reining and western riding, and the speed and deftness required from roping horses and riders, enjoy the versatility of the American Quarter Horse on this final day of competition.
