Homebred mare Hello Bombshell wins the world championship in amateur yearling mares.

Do-it-yourself breeders Allysn and Robert Light of Oford, North Carolina, did it again.

On November 9, Allysn led Hello Bombshell to a world championship in amateur yearling mares at the 2012 AQHA World Championship Show.

“We brought her here last year and tied for reserve and lost the tie, so we ended up third. We really liked her,” Allysn said. “She was a little late. She was a middle-of-February (baby), and it’s hard to compete against the first-of-January babies. She just grew into herself. There are so many good mares here, you just never know.”

Hello Bombshell is a 2011 sorrel mare by Mazeratti and out of the Lights’ blue-hen mare EF Mystique, a 2000 daughter of Ima Cool Skip. From five foals, EF Mystique has produced three world champions and one reserve world champion.

The class at the 2012 World Show included 16 halter mares, and the exhibitors lined up under each judge. Allysn and “Supergirl” had three firsts, a second and a third for the win.

“She showed really good, so it was fun,” Allysn said. “She was easy to show today. Some of them are a little more difficult than others, but she was really good.”

Allysn had the advantage of knowing the mare from foaling.

“We fit her at home ourselves, and Gene Parker helped me here and coached me and helped us get in the arena,” she said. “She’s just real pretty, really correct. She’s not super extreme anywhere, just pretty textbook. Good over her top, a lot of muscle, just a lot of eye appeal to her.”

The win, Allysn said, makes up for her disappointment in not making the finals in amateur boxing.

“I’m new to boxing, so I don’t have a lot of confidence,” she said. “I’ve been doing this forever and ever. I know my job a little better.”
