Senior Tie Down Roping

Drag And Fly finally wins his world championship.

Drag And Fly is the definition of an all-around American Quarter Horse.

The 2002 bay stallion holds the record for the most AQHA open all-around titles, performing in tie-down roping, reining, cutting and cow horse, with a little heading and heeling to boot. He has also earned points in barrel racing, pole bending and ranch sorting, plus halter and performance halter.

He has been the all-around horse at 144 shows and has been reserve all-around 36 times.

“Drago” has National Reining Horse Association  and National Reined Cow Horse Association earnings, and in  2008 was the year-end high-point AQHA working cow horse. In 2007, he was the year-end high-point AQHA junior working cow horse.

But he hadn’t won an AQHA world championship until November 17.

That’s when AQHA Professional Horseman C.R. Bradley rode him to the senior tie-down roping world championship.

“I’ve had Drag And Fly since June, so not very long, and we qualified him in one weekend,” C.R. said. “He’s been great. I knew we had a good chance. He was fantastic. Scored great, ran really hard and worked the rope fantastic, so I was really proud. He’s a great horse.”

Drago is by Bueno Chexinic and out of Sheza Dualin Jane by Dual Pep. He was bred by Theodore and Keri Eady of Sisters, Oregon, and is owned by Penelope Knight of Hillsboro, Oregon, who was on hand to see the win.

“You have no idea (how much this means),” she said. “I’m very excited.”

Drago is as quiet at home as he was when he backed into the roping box, C.R. said.

“He’s really neat,” he said. “He’s kind of a ham. He’s fun to be around. He’s a stud, but you don’t know it.

“His heart (makes him a champion). He tries so hard.”

Drago will be back to defend his title in 2013, C.R. said, but first he’s going to have a couple of side trips.

“He gets to be the grand-entry horse in the (Wrangler) National Finals (Rodeo) for Tuf Cooper,” C.R. said. “And he’s going to be at the World Series of Team Roping in Vegas (in December), so that’s his next venture.”
