AQHA Professional Horseman Brad Lund roped up a title November 16 that should serve as a pretty good Christmas present this year.

Riding his wife, Amy’s, horse, Brad captured the world championship in senior heading at the 2012 AQHA World Championship Show.

Smart Express is a 2000 sorrel gelding by Smart Little Lena out of Speedee Dee Express by Zan Parr Express. He was bred by Edward White of Meadow Vista, California.

“He’s 12, and we actually just started roping on him last year,” Amy said. “(We) heeled on him for the first time this year. He’s just a good horse. He’s got a lot of personality. But there’s a kind of a funny story. He didn’t get started until he was 6.”

Now that he’s started, “Speedee” came on strong in the 15-horse finals November 16. Working 13th in the draw, he and Brad scored a 226 for the win.

“I thought it was a good run,” Amy said. “There are a lot of good horses out there. I was just happy it worked. Just happy we got to the finals.”

PRCA roper Kory Koontz of Sudan, Texas, heeled for the run.

“He was actually heeling on my other horse,” Amy said. “I have to thank my husband and Kory and Speedee.”
