Rita Crundwell of Dixon, Illinois, won her third 2010 halter world championship in the amateur 3-year-stallions finals on November 9. She led Touchdown Cali to the win, a 2007 son of her stallion Mr Touchdown Kid and a mare named Cali Accord.
“(Touchdown Cali is) out of one of Terry Stever’s…Skipper W-bred mares,” Rita said. “I leased his mares when he left Colorado; and this is one of the first foal crops.”
Cali Accord is by Cordero (by Toys Star) and out of Mexicali Antique by Surenuffskippa – she is linebred Skipper W top and bottom, which makes her a line outcross to Mr Touchdown Kid’s Conclusive/Sonny Go Lucky breeding.
“We’ve been showing (Touchdown Cali) in the green western (performance classes) this year, he’s got (a few) points,” Rita added. “He’s really a good mover, and he’s going to make someone a nice horse. He’s N/N. He’s a nice, balanced horse. He’s not the hugest horse but it’s hard to pick a fault because he’s so balanced.”
Rita shows a lot of stallions, and she calls Touchdown Cali a “dead-head.”
“He’s not mean, he’s like a gelding,” she said. “There’s no trick to showing him, just hoping you can keep his head up!”
