The 2012 Adequan Select World Championship Show debuts first day of competitions at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds.

The Adequan Select World will continue through September 1.

The 2012 Adequan Select World Championship Show kicked off the first day of competition at the Amarillo Tri-State Fairgrounds today. Cutting exhibitors filled the Amarillo National Center at 2 p.m. to start competition. The Adequan Select World will continue through September 1.

Expect to see much excitement surrounding the event’s 10th anniversary, with a variety of activities for competitors, friends, family and spectators to take part in throughout the show. These events include the exhibitor party held at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum August 27 and a barn party on August 29. “We have been looking forward to the Adequan Select World, not only because it is the 10th anniversary, but also because of the facility improvements and array of special events that will take place throughout the week,” said AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr.

For the 2012 event, AQHA has rolled out the red carpet for new awards. In addition to the coveted gold world champion trophy, horsemen (and -women) 70 years and over now have the chance to earn an AQHA Super-Select award for their efforts. Also, the Intermediate awards, which debuted at the 2011 AQHA world shows, will once again be presented to the top Intermediate-level riders in every class. Exhibitors won’t want to miss out on free AQHA Ride the Rail/Ride the Pattern clinics taught by AQHA Professional Horsemen Saturday, August 25 and Tuesday, August 28.

The Adequan Select World is the world’s largest, single-breed championship horse show open exclusively to amateur exhibitors, age 50 and older. This is the pinnacle event for Select amateur competitors around the world who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to secure a spot in each of the classes, representing English, over fences, western, speed, cattle and halter events.
