For the fourth year in a row, Anne Wilson of Dallas is the Select world champion in showmanship.

On August 30, Anne claimed her gold trophy with Visible Investment at the 2013 Adequan Select World Championship Show.

“I’m very blessed to have this honor,” Anne said. “I’ve always loved the class, so I practice and I try very hard. I get a little worked up about it, but I control my nerves when I get in the pen and seem to have a successful outcome. I’m very grateful.”

The finals showmanship pattern called for a back, then a one-quarter turn, then a second back before walking to the judge.

“The two backs were tricky, because that’s a challenge for my horse,” Anne said. "He’s built very broad behind and so he tends to waddle backward and so we have to practice getting a nice cadenced back, and then I think I’m challenged in judging distances so I wanted to stop at the correct time after the first back and I was worried about that in the arena.”

Visible Investment is a 2000 bay gelding by Investment Asset and out of Visibly Royal by Sonny Go royal. He was bred by Donald. L. Moothart of Fairfield, Iowa.

As Anne walked into the finals with “Dudley,” she wasn’t thinking about her wins from 2010, 2011 and 2012.

“I just wanted to have a good pattern,” she said. “I want to thank my husband, John. He’s my best groom and helps with longeing. He sponsors me in this hobby of mine. It makes for a very happy wife. I love showing horses. I’m so grateful that he’s always here to support me, and my trainers John and Jill Briggs have been fantastic. They are very very good at showmanship and also had the youth showmanship champion in August. It’s a fun barn to be part of.”

Sharp-eyed showmanship enthusiasts might have noticed something familiar about the jacket worn by the youth showmanship winner, Rebecca Anderson of Gothenburg, Nebraska.

“I love Rebecca Anderson and let her wear my world championship jacket from last year,” Anne said. “It’s a very lucky jacket, I have to say, but I’m not going to sell it.”
