In just her first year at the Adequan Select World Championship Show, Keitha Stutzman of Blissfield, Michigan, clinched a world champion title in 3-year-old geldings with her horse Ugonnakissmeornot.

Teary-eyed, she spoke of her first world championship, “I’m very excited. It’s a culmination of a lot of work.”

Keitha is impressive. She caught on quickly to her new hobby. She has been riding for years and has competed in western classes and pleasure, but is new to halter horses. This is not only her first Adequan Select World, but one of her first seasons showing halter.

“I’ve been showing halter horses going on a little over a year and a half,” said Keitha, but her years of show experience and her trainer have helped her be successful.

She has been working with trainers Tom and Mary Robertson for the past two years as she focused on halter horses full-time.

“I’ve shown forever. I never dreamed that I’d be here today with a world championship. It’s truly a dream come true,” said Keitha.

Her husband stood close, grinning, as his wife bustled around receiving hugs and congratulations, taking pictures and interviewing. He said that this was a dream come true for him, too. He proudly held her awards after the class.

Ugonnakissmeornot, who is also known as "Floyd," is a family favorite.

“The whole family likes him: my grandkids, my daughter, my son-in-law and my husband. My husband just gets a big grin on his face every time he looks at him. He’s the first horse that has ever made him smile like that,” said Keitha.

They decided not to change his barn name when they purchased him as a 2-year-old because her late father-in-law was also named Floyd. She said that it was perfect.

“My father-in-law was exceptional and this horse is exceptional,” said Keitha, holding back the emotion that both the win and the significance of the name evoked.

Ugonnakissmeornot is by Western Gunslinger who traces to Kid Clu and Ima Cool Skip. He is out of Im Dresed Phenomenal who traces to Mr Conclusion.

She said Floyd is a real character.

And this is a lady who knows about character. She has committed 30 years of her life to others as a registered nurse. Most of it was spent working in the operating room. She has only been retired for three years and loves it.

In addition to the horses, she stays busy with her grandsons, sewing, making jewelry and taking care of the couple’s dog.

“I take my grandsons to their different functions. They’re ball players and one runs track. I stay busy,” said Keitha.

Now that she is finished competing at this year’s Select show, she plans to take some time to relax. Floyd isn’t done, though. He will likely be at the “big world” with Tom.

Keith said she has enjoyed her time at the Adequan Select and plans to come back next year if she qualifies.

She said her experience has been “very, very good. Everybody is supportive, but I think that’s the age. Everybody is here to enjoy it. We’ve done the hard work in life, so now we’re just here to relax.”
