Performance Halter Geldings

Betty Watt upgrades to gold with Lets Shake Em Up in performance halter geldings.

In 2012, Betty Watt of Elbert, Colorado, was reserve world champion at the Adequan Select World Championship Show with Lets Shake Em Up.

This year, she and “Riley” were the world champions.

“It’s a lot better,” Betty said. “I’m so excited and thrilled. I had no idea. I really didn’t.”

Lets Shake Em Up is a 2008 bay gelding by Innovation Only and out of JR Fancy Can Zip by He Can Zip. He was bred by Sharon F. Willis of Louisburg, Missouri, and Betty has owned him since May 2012.

“He’s a performance horse, of course,” Betty said in her exclusive Journal interview. “He does trail and western riding, but he’s just a cool horse. He loves what he does. Pins his ears back at me when I go in when he’s eating. After that, he’s a lover and just a fabulous horse. I love him a lot.”

Betty was also first in the Super-Select category for exhibitors over age 70.

“When I got the Super-Select award, which sometimes you think, 'Gee, I get an award for being the oldest one,' but anyway, I didn’t expect to win (the class),” Betty said. “I knew there were some really good horses in there and I thought, ‘Well, if I can do as well as I did last year, that would be fine.’ I didn’t think I would win. But he showed well. I had peppermints for him and he kinda kept his ears up and I dropped one in the dirt, and that was the end of that.”

Peppermint disaster aside, though, “it was a good day, a very good day.”
