2012 Select World

Righteous Mister is making quite the name for himself in the show pen. The 7-year-old chestnut stallion – with only nine foals, four of which have performed – has already produced two AQHA world champions. Add that to Righteous Mister’s two personal world championships and you’ve got the start of a legacy.
The stallion’s first champion, Righteous Endeavor out of the Im Kiddin mare Fancy Me A Cool Kid, won amateur weanling geldings at the 2011 AQHA World Championship Show with James Tan of Sherman, Texas. Not to be outdone, Righteous Endeavor’s full sister, Oh So Righteous, stepped into the 15-horse weanling mares class at the 2012 Adequan Select World Championship Show and stepped out with another gold trophy for her daddy.
The win was especially sweet for competitor Lonn Smallwood of Pilot Point, Texas, who led the chestnut filly to the championship; Lonn also doubles as the co-owner and breeder of Righteous Mister. By Mr Yella Fella and out of the Coolest mare Cool Innocence, Righteous Mister was bred and raised by Lonn and his wife, AQHA Professional Horseman Kathy Smallwood.
“I showed her sire, Righteous Mister, and we made him a two-time world champion in ’05 and I had shown the sire’s dam, (Cool Innocence), in ’99 and made her a world champion in amateur (yearling mares) and so it’s all homegrown. It’s tremendous,” Lonn told the Journal during his Journal Winning Run interview.
Although Lonn and Kathy have a few Righteous Mister fillies at home, they knew that Oh So Righteous was the perfect addition to the show string, so they purchased the filly from their business partners, Jon and James Tan of Dallas.
“She’s just so pretty and so balanced,” Lonn said of Oh So Righteous. “We all know that it’s really tough bringing babies out in August and having them ready. Really, she’s the one who rose to the top and said, ‘I can do this.’ ”
Her win at the Adequan Select World kicks off a series of big shows for Oh So Righteous. The Smallwoods have the filly pointed to the open weanling mares class at the 2012 AQHA World Show, where Kathy will lead her into the pen. Between then and now, the filly has a few more stops, too.
“We’re going to the Big (Halter) Money Futurity and the (World Conformation Horse Association) Futurity in just a few weeks out in Tennessee. She’ll be in the trailer with five other Righteous Mister (horses),” Lonn said.
You could say that Lonn is certainly smitten with Oh So Righteous and what she brings to the table for the Smallwood breeding program.
“We love her to death.”
