Jody Hicks and Denium N Lace capture another Adequan Select World championship, this year in aged mares.
"Last in, last out."
That was Joann "Jody" Hicks' simple plan as the last exhibitor to enter the arena for the aged mares finals August 27 at the Adequan Select World Championship Show. In a talented class of 16 finalists, the Friendswood, Texas, exhibitor and 2008 sorrel mare Denium N Lace waited and waited for the announcer to call their names. To Jody’s delight, they were the last pair in the ring.
Jody and “Lacey” won the 3-year-old mares class at last year’s Adequan Select World.
“This is my second time to stand in glory, and believe me, it’s wonderful!” Jody said.
Jody and her husband, Jim, have owned Lacey for a little more than two years.
“She’s a joy to have, good to show,” Jim said. “She likes to show. We’re really proud of her. We appreciate (Lacey’s trainers) Luke and Abbi Castle."
Jody hopes to continue showing Lacey as long as the mare stays healthy and continues to win. Another Adequan Select World is definitely in their travel plans.
“We look forward to this show every year,” she said. “It’s wonderful.”
As for Jim, “My job is driving Miss Jody!”
