2012 Select World

For Melinda Minnis, 40 years of show experience set her up for a world champion title in the 3-year-old mares class at the 2012 Adequan Select World Show.
Melinda had been knocking on the door of that title for a while, placing in the top 10 several times at last year's Select show. Kupcakz had placed in the top 10 in the past, as well.
“I used to ride pleasure horses and showed western pleasure futurity horses most of the time,” she said. “Then (I) switched over to Paint halter horses and found Kupcakz two years ago.”
The 2009 sorrel mare, bred by Danny Glenn of Dalton, Ohio, is by Grand Slam Touchdown and out of the Sierras Black Gold mare Gold Temptation.
“I bought her from Gigi and Greg Davis,” Melinda said of Kupcakz. “I just love her. She’s a neat mare.”
Although she usually lives in Templeton, California, Melinda finds time to head out to Texas to work with Kupcakz.
“I fly in usually once a month to the ranch … and visit,” she said. “(each visit) is one of many trips throughout the year.”
Today, Melinda said she has family at home and folks at the barn watching online, and a lot of other Quarter Horse owners at the show cheering her and Kupcakz on.
She especially wanted to thank all of the people who have helped her reach this point.
“Most of all, Kelley Stone (of Sanger, Texas) and her assistant, Jennifer Sovocool, all of the ranch help … and (AQHA Professional Horseman) Jason Smith,” she said. “He actually found (Kupcakz) for me.”
Melinda was very proud to be awarded the world champion title along with Kupcakz.
“It’s fantastic,” she said. “I’ve waited a long time.”
