The man who is no stranger for being the first to reach historic milestones, Shawn Flarida has reached another one by becoming the National Reining Horse Association’s first $5 million rider.
Helping Shawn reach this new milestone was his second-place finish at the 2013 NRHA Futurity in the Level 4 open finals aboard Tinseltown Fly Guy (Hollywoodstinseltown-Fly Flashy Jac), owned by Wagner & Vandorp. Marking a 224, the duo’s earnings for their finals and go-round performances totaled over $143,000, sending Shawn flying over the $5-million mark. Shawn hails from Springfield, Ohio, and has been competing in NRHA-approved events since 1981. He became NRHA’s third $1 million rider in 2003, the second $2 million rider in 2006, the first $3 million rider in 2008, and the first, and currently only, $4 million rider in 2011.

Aside from his NRHA winnings, Shawn has also earned many accolades in AQHA competition, as well, the most recent being the 2012 AQHA senior reining world championship aboard Whizkey N Diamonds.
