The 2014 Dixie National Quarter Horse Show kicks off on February 4 in Jackson, Mississippi, with the Equestrians With Disabilities Show to be held in the Kirk Fordice Equine Center beginning at 9 a.m. The 2013 show was a huge success with more than 50 AQHA entries and 100 open entries! There is still time to enter to participate. Call Liz Turner at 228-669-4517 or Mary Hopkins at 601-638-1322 for more entry and volunteer info.
The rest of the events will begin on Wednesday, February 12,with two arenas running simultaneously with four judges in each arena. That’s four sets of AQHA points! We welcome the top horses and trainers in the country to our show. In the Watson Quality Ford Roping Challenge Shootout, some of the tie-down ropers and team ropers in the world will compete for $10,500 in added money. This challenge has allowed the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show to become one of the premier AQHA roping events in the country.
With more 65,000 square feet of shopping, the Dixie National Equine Expo is a shoppers delight, boasting vendors from across the United States with the latest fashions, accessories, saddles, tack and trailers in the nation. The Equine Expo opens Wednesday thru Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday at 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Harris Leather, UlcerGard, Nutrena and Watson Ford are a few of the many booths to nose around in. To complement your shopping experience, Chimneyville Food Court will be open for down-home cooking, and up-and-coming country music star Brent Harrison will play daily on the Equine Expo stage.
Visit the AQHA booth for transfers, registrations and other onsite services! As always, we appreciate AQHA being there serving our customers and promoting our industry.
Sidepassing over a log asks horse and rider to work together as a team, and AQHA Professional Horseman Bill Bormes shows you how to accomplish that in the December American Quarter Horse Journal.
