The final day of the 2013 Region Three Championship Show started just as the previous four days – Roy Schwab of Plymouth, Wisconsin, sang the Canadian and U.S. national anthems while Todd Waldera of Taylor, Wisconson, carried the flags around the Warner Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, Minnesota. Todd has been a favorite exhibitor at the Region Three show for years, competing with his stallion, Lukes Dun Cyclone, and carrying the flags each morning for several years.
The first classes of the day were western riding, with about 40 horses traveling the pattern for the Region Three Championship and AQHA show judges. The little tingle in the air might have been from the brief rain showers, or it might have been the excitement of the high-point awards to be presented that afternoon – including seven Tex Tan rough-out work saddles. A big thank you goes to Markel Insurance for sponsoring six of the saddles that went home with happy exhibitors.
The western pleasure classes began before noon, with the leadline riders, always a tough class for our judges but a crowd favorite. More than 200 horses showed in the western pleasure classes, including 32 entries in the Novice amateur western pleasure.
AQHA Professional Horseman Jeff Greaves rode Chex Out My Lope for Kamryn Kruchten, Waunakee, Wisconsin, to win the final Region Three Championship for 2013 in senior western pleasure.
