About the NCEA National Championships
The National Collegiate Equestrian Association, formerly known as Varsity Equestrian, is divided into two disciplines: hunter seat and western. At the national championships, each discipline has its own bracket with 12 teams in it. Each of the two divisions has a 12-team seeded bracket similar to that of the NCAA basketball championships. Teams are seeded from one through 12 and placed accordingly into the bracket, which features four rounds of competition.
The American Quarter Horse Journal was in Waco, Texas, for the April 18-20 NCEA National Championships. Read the Journal’s coverage from the 2013 event.
