SHW771. EWD WALK, JOG / TROT TRAIL HORSE CLASS - Beginner and/or Advanced:

SHW771.1 Equipment and attire - Class can be ridden English or western but must be one way or the other. There will be no mixing of attire or equipment. Specifications on attire and equipment are the same as for the Walk & Trot Hunt Seat Equitation and Western Horsemanship classes.

SHW771.2 The following points have equal consideration in judging the class:
Rider's balance
Rider's seat
Use of aids
Ability to follow directions
Ring etiquette and safety>
Sportsmanlike conduct
Results as shown by the performance of the horse are not to be considered more important than the manner used in obtaining them.

SHW771.3 Class procedure and scoring - This class will be judged on the performance of the horse and while maneuvering 5 obstacles for walk, trot/jog trail and 6 obstacles for walk, trot/jog, cantor/lope trail. Riders are to work individually. There will be no rail work. Judges will assign a point value to each obstacle and points will be added to or subtracted from this score based on the horse and rider's performance over that obstacle. An obstacle missed, refused or taken out of order will result in a score of zero for that obstacle but will not disqualify entry.

SHW771.4 Course - Safety of riders should be the first consideration in setting up the course. The course should be attractive with readily recognized obstacles. Sufficient space should be allowed between obstacles. One of the following two patterns is mandatory for walk/jog trot trail and should be posted at least one hour ahead of class time.
EQUESTRIANS WITH DISABILITIES WALK & JOG/TROT TRAIL PATTERN 1 (Beginner)
X = Horse Handlers
- Enter arena and walk through open gate.
- Walk over three poles on the ground.
- Walk to marker 1 (this can be a cone or labeled marker), pick up a jog and jog to marker 2. Stop and back two steps.
- Walk to a barrel, circle it to the right and continue walking.
- Walk through chute and turn left to line up tail to rail in front of handler. The chute can be made up of poles, cones, sawhorses, road barricades or similar objects placed in two parallel lines through which the exhibitor walks.
EQUESTRIANS WITH DISABILITIES WALK/JOG TRAIL PATTERN 2 (Beginner)
X = Horse Handler
- Enter arena and walk through open gate.
- Walk a serpentine around four barrels in a line.
- Jog a semi-circle from one cone or marker to second cone to marker. Stop and back up two steps.
- Walk into and out of box made up of four logs set in a square.
- Walk to pole, pick up hanging object such as a cap or jacket and walk out of arena, handing object to ring person as exhibitor finishes pattern.
- Turn left to line up tail to rail in front of the pattern.
TRAIL WALK, TROT/JOG, CANTER/LOPE (Advanced)
X = Horse Handlers
- Walk over logs
- Weave cones at the trot
- Continue trot over logs to L
- Walkthru L
- Walk over bridge
- Trot to chute, stop or break to a walk, walk into chute, backout
- Take a canter or lope on the left lead to the cone. Stop at cone and walk back to line up.
