Longshot holds on to win James Isaac Hobbs Stakes in New Mexico.

September 15, 2012

After finishing off the board last year in the James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G2) at Zia Park, 21 Partnership’s Zulu Dragon scored a 10-1 upset in this year’s edition to take the winner’s share of the $55,090 purse. Ridden by Larry Gamez for trainer Eduardo Gonzalez, the 5-year-old son of First Down Dash hit the wire in :17.298 for 350 yards and won by a neck.

Bred in New Mexico by Rafter W Stables out of the Dean Miracle mare Hidden Dragon, Zulu Dragon picked up his second career stakes win after taking last year’s La Plata Stakes (G2) at SunRay Park. Zulu Dragon’s record now stands at 26-5-4-0 with earnings of $163,509.

Tee Cos, who finished third in last year’s All American Futurity (G1), finished a game second and was well clear of third-place finisher JD Baccarat, a starter in the 2010 All American Futurity who won this year’s Higheasterjet Handicap (G3) at Ruidoso Downs.
