Gerald Libersat’s Taylors Toastin Papa puts his four-race winning streak on the line in the $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes (RG3) at 400 yards during a stakes doubleheader on Saturday at Delta Downs.
Also 870-yard runners race in the $30,000 Virgil Bond Stakes.
Taylors Toastin Papa (Toast To Dash-Tacha La Jolla by Streakin La Jolla) has six wins and two second-place finishes in his latest eight starts and started his current winning streak in an allowance race on December 17 at Louisiana Downs.
After another allowance win, Taylors Toastin Papa moved up to the stakes division to upset the Mr Jess Perry Stakes (RG3) at Louisiana Downs and then win the Juan Alleman Stakes at Delta Downs (RG3). He held his rivals off by a neck to win the Alleman in :17.480 for the 350 yards.
Sunset Racing Stables’ Lousiana Panther (Panther Mountain-Iwanna Dash by Royal Quick Dash) shortens in distance after winning an optional-claiming race at 440 yards and then finishing second in the Delta 550 Championship. The Kenneth Roberts-trained gelding was just a neck off Louisiana Rangler in the Delta 550 Championship.
In the $30,000 Virgil Bond Stakes, the Henry Padgett-owned and -trained Slinkys Fortune (Dashs Slinky-Chasing A Fortune by Six Fortunes) is always dangerous at 870 yards with 11 wins, 10 seconds and three thirds from 26 starts at 870 yards and earning $260,223 at the distance. The 8-year-old gelding showed his class in his most recent start when he got up in the stretch to run down Dr Drip and win with Magnolia Stakes (R) by a nose.
Barry McDonald’s Doyles Dashing Star moved up in class after taking an 870-yard allowance race by 3 1/2 lengths. She also thrives at 870 yards, with two wins and a second from three starts over the distance.
