Evangeline Downs held 11 trials on Friday night for the $1-million guaranteed LQHBA Breeders’ Futurity (RG1) to be run on November 17 at the Louisiana track. Jose Guzman’s T Boy C, a gelding from the first crop of the Grade 1-placed First Down Dash stallion Sir Runaway Dash, rolled to a two-length victory in the third heat to set the fastest qualifying time of :19.639 for 400 yards. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode for trainer Miguel Rodriguez. T Boy C, who was bred by Roy Curtis and Gerald Patin, broke his maiden in a trial for the LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) and then finished third in the LQHBA Invitational Stakes (R).

The second-fastest qualifier came out of the final trial as Tommy Hays and Charles Forbes Jr.’s Open Me A Corona, by Coronas Leaving You, put up a time of :19.667 with a nose victory over Cougar Hill. David Alvarez rode the winner for trainer Bobby Martinez. Open Me A Corona is undefeated in two starts after winning a trial to the Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2) in May but scratching from the final.

Luis Armando Castellanos’ Cougar Hill, the runner-up in the Gillespie County Fair Futurity (G3) in Texas, just missed the victory and earned the third-fastest time of :19.674.

Douglas Traylor’s Dashin Gage, winner of the LQHBA Sale Futurity, won the sixth trial with the sixth-fastest qualifying time.
