Snowboundbeast Wins Adequan Evergreen Challenge

Snowboundbeast sets track record and earns Challenge Championship ticket.

Dean Frey's owned-and-trained Snowboundbeast returned July 21 to set a new track record while winning his fifth consecutive race. The gray 3-year-old also earned his first stakes victory with an impressive 1-½ length-winning margin in the $27,060 Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge.

Under jockey Ramiro Castillo, the 3-year-old annihilated Evergreen Park's 400 yard course record with a time of :19.670 seconds, a 107 speed index. Memories N Moments set the previous record of :19.750 seconds on August 13, 2011.

Bred in California by Anita Bramlette, Snowboundbeast is undefeated in five starts this season. His only loss came in August 2012 when he made his career debut at Los Alamitos. After breaking his maiden at Los Alamitos last April, Frey moved the gelding to Canada where he also won the $24,273 AQHA Maiden Challenge on May 18. The $12,989 Adequan Derby winner's purse pushed his career total to more than $31,300.

The son of leading Thoroughbred sire Snowbound, from the Mr Eye Opener mare Going Single, also earned an invite to the $200,000-guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G2) on November 9 during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Mark Cassel's Sr Rode Tah Glory was second best to earned $5,547. Allen Goodsell conditions the Latest Version filly out of Kr Mia La Jolla, by Streakin La Jolla. Ed and Mary Kyler are the breeders and Teagon Oulton had the riding assignment.

Ric O Shay finished a half-length back in the show position for owner/trainer Alvin Cross Child. Dwight Lewis was aboard the Feature Mr Jess gelding out of Vandi Chick, by Corona Cocktail. B&R Livestock, LLC bred Ric O Shay in Utah.

Completing the field were Poutin With Speed, Illthinkaboutit, Big Bad Hoss, Dash Bella and Rd Genuine.
