Slinkys Fortune in Magnolia

Ultra-consistent gelding headlines Magnolia Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

February 8, 2012

The Henry Padgett-owned and -trained Slinkys Fortune, a consistent paycheck-producing gelding, is in a prime position to add to his bank account when he starts in the $40,000 Magnolia Stakes for Louisiana-breds over 870 yards on Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

The 8-year-old Slinkys Fortune (Dashs Slinky-Chasing A Fortune by Six Fortunes) has raced to top-three finishes in 23 of 25 starts and earned $236,223 while racing against both Louisiana-bred and open competition. He is maintaining his high performance level with his current streak of five top-three finishes.

In his two latest starts, each against open horses at 870 yards, Slinkys Fortune raced to a win and a second in stakes races. Two starts ago, he rallied from second to win the Au Revoir Stakes over the turf at Evangeline Downs as the 2-1 favorite and in his most recent race he was second in the Marathon Stakes at Louisiana Downs at 19-10 odds.

David Lee Vance’s Leading Patriot (Game Patriot-Little Miss Leader (TB) by Yesterdays Hero) returns from a seven-month layoff for the Magnolia Stakes. The Danny Joe Eldridge-trained gelding scored a win and two seconds from his three 2011 efforts before his layoff. He set a Delta Downs’ 870-yard track record in his final 2011 start when he won the Live Oak Stakes and Slinkys Fortune finished third.

A lifetime earner of $184,252, Leading Patriot has won nine of 22 starts with three seconds and three thirds.

Cat Five Storm (Panther Mountain-She Wants Cash by Send Cash) also makes her first appearance since the Live Oak Stakes back on July 3. The 5-year-old mare races for Lyle Guillory and Teddy Abrams’ Ill Take A Twirl LLC and the Frank Cavazos-trainee faded to seventh in the Live Oak Stakes as the 13-10 favorite.

Cat Five Storm earned that favoritism in in the Live Oak Stakes by setting a Delta Downs’ 870-yard track record while winning the Virgil Bond Stakes in her previous start.
