August 25, 2013

The eight-day meet at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Texas, came to an end on Sunday with the traditional closing race, the $140,900 Gillespie County Fair Futurity (G3). The 350-yard race featured a dominant performance by Separatist Firsdown, who sprinted to a 1 ¾-length victory in :17.413. Eddie Martinez rode the Separatist colt. Isidro Flores trains the Texas-bred and co-owns him with Oscar Canales Ramirez.

Bred by Narciso Flores, Separatist Firstdown is now a two-time Grade 3 winner after capturing the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs. All told, the colt has won four of six starts with earnings of $145,753.

Jose Espinosa’s The Kat In The Hat, winner of the John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge (G3), took second. BB Secrets Zoom crossed the wire third but was disqualified for interference. That made JLS Bubba B the third-place finisher for owner Sunset Well Service Inc.
