One Famous Eagle gelding scores stakes win for new owners.

Nicole Araya’s Secretly Famous went wire to wire to score an upset victory over a field that included stakes winners Buy Buy and Mama Mia Bella to win the $25,000 Pat Hyland Memorial Handicap Stakes on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Making his first start for owner Nicole Araya since being claimed for $12,500 on August 11, Secretly Famous broke from post number six and looked better with each passing stride on the way to a half-length victory over California Breeders’ Freshman Fillies Stakes (R) winner Buy Buy. Ridden by Oscar Peinado for trainer Charles Treece, Secretly Famous covered the 350 yards in :17.647 while posting his second straight victory. Sent off at odds of 21-1, the gelding by One Famous Eagle made it rain money for his backers to the tune of a $44 win payout.

Secretly Famous’ winning effort also made it rain cash for Araya and her husband, Sammy, which is an appropriate result considering that the couple is involved in a reality show available at www.makeitrain.tv. The basis of the show is that ‘Rainmakers’ give away money at live events. Secretly Famous earned $13,750 for this victory.

“I’ve been coming to Los Alamitos as a racehorse fan for a long time,” said Sammy Araya. “I always dreamed about owning a horse and after talking to a friend of mine that owned horses Nicole and I decided about six months ago that it was something that we wanted to do.”

“Secretly Famous is the first horse that I’ve owned,” Nicole said. “It’s my first race and my first win. This is unbelievable. I’ve ridden horses before and we felt that owning a racehorse is something that we could do together. It’s a good family hobby and I would love our daughter, Gabriela, to enjoy horses as she gets older.”

“This is a blessing for us,” Sammy continued. “We wanted to get two or three more horses because we wanted to make a go at this sport. Our six-year anniversary is coming up on September 23 so this is a nice early celebration.”

Secretly Famous has finished third or better in four of five career starts. Secretly Famous also becomes One Famous Eagle newest stakes winner following the great fortunes of recent All American Futurity (G1) winner One Dashing Eagle. The red-hot freshman stallion is also the sire of Joy Roses Eagle SA, who ran third behind One Dashing Eagle in the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1).

Trained by Roberto Dominguez for Kolleen Ledgerwood, Buy Buy saw her three-race winning streak snapped in the Pat Hyland. The Stel Corona filly was claimed for $10,000 on June 30 before making an impressive barn debut with her Freshman Stakes win with jockey Eddie Garcia aboard. Buy Buy earned $5,625 for finishing second in the Pat Hyland. Beat This Chick, Airplane Gold, Blazindreams, Trial Of Faith, Mama Mia Bella and Check Cee Jay Out completed the field.
