Chin Lee’s Sandys Jesse scored a 17-1 upset in Sunday’s $85,000 New Mexico HBA Stakes (RG2) for 3-year-old state-breds at Sunland Park as the daughter of Jesse James Jr prevailed by a half-length. Ridden by Tanner Thedford for trainer Alonso Orozco, Sandys Jesse picked up her first career stakes win with a 400-yard clocking of :19.267.

This marked the fourth career victory for Sandys Jesse, who last year finished second in the New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (RG3) at Albuquerque. Her record now stands at 9-4-2-1 with earnings of $97,615. MJ Farms bred Sandys Jesse out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Sandys Fame.
