Chin Lee’s Sandys Jesse should gain the favorite’s role in the $65,000 Tommy “Duke” Smith Stakes over 400 yards for 3-year-old New Mexico-bred fillies after her close second-place finish in the $65,000 New Mexico Breeders Stakes.

Sandys Jesse (Jesse James Jr-Sandys Fame by Dash Ta Fame) took the lead in the 400-yard New Mexico Breeders Stakes (R), but was unable to hold off Jess Ruben James and was beaten by a neck in the stakes at SunRay Park.

On the board in 10 of 12 career starts, Sandys Jesse had an excellent campaign at Sunland Park, with wins in the Sunburst Stakes and the NMHBA Stakes (RG2) to go with a third-place finish in the Mesilla Valley Handicap (RG2).

The Jaime Aldavaz-owned and -trained Get Down Bambi (Get Down Perry-Chilly Force by Red Hot Rhythm) tries to prove she belongs at this level. She won her maiden and then an optional-claiming race before racing to a fifth-place finish in the Sunburst Stakes, her stakes debut and most recent start.

The Gabino Carrillo-owned and -trained Aful Alibi (Genuine Strawfly-Southern Alibi by Streakin La Jolla) makes her stakes debut after moving up from the claiming ranks. She won for a $12,500 tag in a quick :17.154 for 350 yards and then was third and second against allowance company.
