October 19, 2013
Jack Benton Wilson’s homebred Redneck Sis, the longest shot in the field at 20-1, broke on top and prevailed by three-quarters of a length in Saturday’s $32,400 Cherokee Challenge Stakes at Will Rogers Downs. The race is part of the Bonus Challenge presented by Markel for Bank of America Racing Challenge-enrolled horses.
Ridden by Randy Wilson for trainer Bonnie Wilson, Redneck Sis got the 300-yard distance in :15.420. This marked the second career stakes win for the 5-year-old daughter of SC Chiseled In Stone after she took last year’s Fair Meadows Futurity. Her career record stands at 29-8-1-3 with earnings of $107,572.
Even-money favorite Chics Delight, who won the Cherokee Challenge in 2010 and finished third in last year’s renewal, rallied to take second for owners Tina and Dale Kolb. The Chicks Doit mare has earned nearly $210,000 in 31 career starts. Karen Vazquez’s Eyesa Romantic got up for third.
