The Russell Harris-owned and trained Prince Valleyant won his maiden at a fortuitous time in the trials and now should be dangerous in the $473,300 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Also on the impressive card is the $174,000 Dash For Cash Derby (G2) and the Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge.

Prince Valleyant (Valiant Hero-Itsmybag (TB) by Bag) topped the 14 trials to the 400-yard Dash For Cash Futurity when he won the final trial by 2 lengths and his time of :19.506 placed him atop the qualifiers’ list.

Harris started the gelding three times this summer at Ruidoso Downs and he showed promise with third-place efforts in his Ruidoso and Rainbow futurity trials. He then reared at the start of his All American Futurity trial and was never in contention.

Flying Hooves RC’s One Handsome Man (One Famous Eagle-Helens First Choice by First Down Dash) could be dangerous in this contentious field after winning his latest two races, each futurity trials to Grade 1 races. The colt won his All American Futurity trial by a neck in :21.469 for 440 yards as the 19-10 favorite and then made a late run to take his Dash For Cash Futurity trial by 1 1/4 lengths with the second-fastest time of :19.511.

Gabriel Guiterrez’s First Down Shazoom (Shazoom-Nonanon by First Down Dash) gained stakes experience this spring at Remington Park and after taking the summer off appears ready to compete at the Grade 1 level. The Guillermo Valdivia-trained gelding raced to a second-place finish in the Lady Bugs Moon Stakes (R) in his first start and was fourth in the Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) in his third effort. He was rested after winning a futurity trial at Fair Meadows and surfaced to win his Dash For Cash Futurity trial by a length with the third-fastest time of :19.575.

Carl Pevehouse’s homebred Send A Candy Guy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Send The Guys Candy by Disco Jerry (TB)) also has minor stakes success with a win in the Bugs Alive In 75 Stakes and a close second in the Fair Meadows Juvenile. The Clinton Crawford-trained colt has the sixth-fastest time of :19.624.
