Philips Streakin Wins LQHBA Futurity

Philips Streakin takes Restricted Grade 1.

On closing day, September 12, of the 2013 Summer Quarter Horse Meet, Philips Streakin dueled and was just up by a neck in the $286,560 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sales Futurity (RG1) for 2-year-old Louisiana-breds at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Owned by Jaime Torres, trained by Fructuoso Huitron and ridden by Martin Rubalcava, the gelding completed the 350 yards in :17.487 and earned a 98 Speed Index. A $2 win bet on Philips Streakin, second choice in the wagering, returned $7.80.

Ol Time Preacher Man stayed on to hold off a late surge by wagering favorite Heza Fast Rogue to finish runner-up. The final order was completed by TF Runaway Perry, morning line favorite Scooter Prize, First Prize Jet, Dashformoomoo, DSS Sissys Royal Jet, Jess a Martini and Runaway Dove.

Philips Streakin earned $114,624 for the win, his third in six lifetime races, improving his career record to 6-3-3-0.
At the meet's close, David A. Alvarez earned the leading jockey title and Frank Elizondo clinched the leading trainer crown in tight contests that came down to the final day of racing. Alvarez, winning two races on the card, finished two ahead of Raul Ramirez, Jr. Elizondo was tied with Miguel Rodriguez going into the final day of racing and won one race to finish ahead 13 to 12.  The leading owner title was won by Ana L. Alvidrez with four wins on the meet. This is the first Fair Grounds Summer Quarter Horse Meet title for Alvarez and Elizondo and the second owner title for Alvidrez.
