Perrys Runaway Takes Montgomery Stakes

Sir Runaway Dash gelding wins first start as a 3-year-old.

Gerald Libersat homebred Perrys Runaway picked up his second consecutive stakes win and fifth win overall in seven starts as he held on to prevail by a neck in Saturday’s $35,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (RG3) at Louisiana Downs. The 3-year-old gelding by Sir Runaway Dash opened up an early lead and held on to win in :17.639 for 350 yards with Donald Watson riding for trainer Kevin Broussard.

Perrys Runaway finished off the board in his career debut last year but since then has won five of six starts, including the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (RG2) last time out at Fair Grounds. Prior to that he had finished third in the Louisiana QHBA Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs. His earnings now stand at $202,377. Perrys Runaway is the leading runner from the first to race of Sir Runaway Dash, a Grade 1-placed First Down Dash stallion and full brother to champions Wave Carver and Ocean Runaway.

T Boy C, also a gelded son of Sir Runaway Dash, took second for owner Jose Guzman. Sharon and Alan Colley’s Pantherisland, a filly by Panther Mountain, finished third in her stakes debut.
