Yaneth Cabrera’s No Ordinary Love became a stakes winner on opening weekend at SunRay Park in Farmington, New Mexico, when the California-bred colt captured the $50,000 Animas Stakes for 3-year-olds. Ridden by Macario Rodriguez and trained by Miguel Castillo, the son of Check Him Out prevailed by a neck with a 400-yard dash in :19.509 at odds of 4-1.

Bred by Zory Kuzyk and John Andreini, No Ordinary Love picked up $30,000 for the win to improve his career bankroll to $69,488. The colt broke his maiden in a trial to last year’s West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park and also picked up a trial win while qualifying to the Four Corners Futurity at SunRay. No Ordinary Love made his 3-year-old debut in March at Sunland, where he scored in a $32,000 allowance race.

No Ordinary Love is the 14th stakes winner sired by Check Him Out and the third stakes winner out of Lady Tenaya, who has also produced Grade 2 winner Corona For The Lady and Restricted Grade 3 winner and young sire Desirio. Lady Tenaya, a daughter of Sixarun, won eight of 21 career starts, including the Ford Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) in 2002.

David Barrett’s homebred Mighty Famous Vic, a Grade 1 qualifier by Mighty Invictus, finished a game second with 9-5 favorite Bills Last, a finalist in the All American Futurity (G1), taking third for owner Paul Blanchard.
